Houston Rockets

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I still remember being a kid and watching Hakeem dominate the low post game. The years when Charles Barkley wore that number 4. We picked up Yao Ming and everyone talked play offs. Everyone knows we couldn’t get past the first round. Not even with Tracy McGrady. This season, I feel like our entire team is playing well. We’re only one win away from getting to the second round! 火箭隊加油!

Apparently this track has been receiving tons of new airplay. Thanks to Samantha for the rec! It’s a pretty song. I’ll never use the word pretty ever again.

As you may know, I’m a huge Deckstream fan. I found out about Music Castle a long time ago, but I wasn’t able to get my hands on it. All I could do was stream it all day. Well, here it is with thanks to Albert, an upbeat version of the classic Gazebo 80’s hit.

Counselor Interviews

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Chinese Youth Camp counselor interviews was this weekend. They usually don’t allow college kids back, but the adults are allowing some this year. Two guys and two girls from college, to be exact. According to one panelist at my interview today, there are a LOT of college kids applying this year. I was asked what I feel I bring to the table that the other college kids don’t, especially with my crutch of only going to camp for three years and no years as a camper. I didn’t want to pull the head counselor card, so I summed up my feelings for camp and my dedication for it in a sentence. I was pleased with myself at the end. My fate is still in the committee’s hands.

Okay that was a shitty ass blog. Thanks to Megan Stewart for hanging out with me today. It made my weekend worthwhile. Besides counselor interviews, of course.

“Where the Wild Things Are” is a new movie slated for release soon (read: October 2009). Okay, I grew up in a home where both my parents spoke limited English. One of my only books at home was “Goodnight Moon.” A classic, if you ask me. At Piney Point Elementary in Houston, my teacher Ms. Hetrick read us “Where the Wild Things Are.” I don’t remember anything about it. I remember the monsters in the jungle. So naturally, I picked up this shirt at Urban Outfitters.

It’s amazing how I even remember my kindergarten teacher’s name. Speaking of elementary school one of the panelists asked me about my best memory from Askew Elementary (where I went later), and I replied, “When we won the 1999 HISD Elementary chess tournament.” He replied, “I only asked because I went there.” Oh snap.

And this shout out has come a long, long way, but thanks Tina Melamed for accompanying me to Quantum of Solace. We watched it at a small screen at Dobie Theater, but damn, was it worth it. One of the few movies I’d pay $9 to see. Even though I got the $6 student ticket.

And of course you’ve been waiting for this part. I’m not a big Lykke Li fan, her music is just too mellow for me. Except for a couple of tracks that show a bit more electronic, I can’t say I like (haha get it) her. I found this Chuck Brody remix.

It’s Almost Over

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

So I failed both of my tests on Thursday. I studied pretty hard for both of them. I don’t want to come out of the semester with a bunch of fucking C’s. It’s a terrible feeling to study hard and then just fail. Just like that. That’s it. No more. I’m all about clutch time and pulling off the final and getting a last second B in the class, but I just don’t feel like that’s gonna happen this semester.

I did something pretty stupid today. I went to JCL after going to the gym without bothering to wash my hands. I think back about all the equipment I touched with my hands, dumbbells, all kinds of handles, shit like that. Now I’ve got a sore throat.

Fast and Furious is a hit. Campy dialogue, but who cares. Good music, fast cars, and Jordana Brewster :3

It’s another one of those weeks for me. Statics and physics test on Thursday. I find myself at the library studying quietly this Easter Sunday. Well, not exactly quietly.

I found out about N.A.S.A. (North America, South America) while searching for a certain remix of “Girl From Ipanema.” A classic song with a new beat. The chorus is so easily stuck in my head, “tall and tan and young and lovely, the girl from Ipanema goes walking…”

From their album “The Spirit of Apollo,” that includes the hot new Internet sensation, “Gifted” that’s featuring Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li. Check it out, it’s all over Youtube. “N.A.S.A. Anthem” is much more chill, and it actually contains a bonus track after a long silence. This track has the bonus track cut out.
