A water main on my street had broken over the weekend. At first, it was the house on the end that had water leaking out of their lawn. A couple days later, water was coming out of our lawn. The irony of the situation is my mom does water piping plans for the City of Houston, though she does new developments and not maintenance. We made a call to 311. They sent a crew on Wednesday to fix the main.
On Wednesday I had a busy day planned with friends, so I got up around 10 to go shower. I was walking to my bathroom holding my towel and a fresh change of clothes when my dad told me they shut off the water for a couple hours. Shit.
Well, luckily, that morning I had been terribly thirsty so I had put some filtered water in an old grapefruit juice bottle and brought it to my room to drink. So with a half bottle of water, I brushed my teeth, washed my face, and rinsed my hair. I even managed to style it a little bit and have water left over. I thought to myself, wow if I could do all this on a half bottle of water, I wonder how much water I can save a day by doing this. I mean, with running water plentiful in developed countries like ours, everyone really takes it for granted. I kind of let the water run when I’m rinsing my toothbrush or washing my face. It’s little things like this that make me think. Maybe we can prevent global climate change, but it will probably take a major social or environmental change.
Oh and I had to pee really bad, and I held it til we got to the Target at Memorial City mall… Seriously, running water is one of the greatest assets ever.
When Jay Chou’s “Still Fantasy” 依然范特西 came out with the single “Far Away” 千里之外, I thought it was one of the best Chinese songs ever. Thing is, it wasn’t because of Jay Chou’s singing. So here is 費玉清’s solo version. Much better fitting, in my opinion.
